NOT DIY - extremely difficult and frustrating to apply

Posted by Eugene Blanchard on 30th Jul 2024

I was unsuccessful to apply the Apex exterior Onyx25 film to 3 windows even after watching a dozen videos on how to do it on Youtube. You have ONE chance to apply it then if you have to reposition it or pull it back to take out a crease, you are left with bubbles and glue smudges. I have never cursed so much in the past 10 years as applying this tint. Honestly save yourself a lot of trouble and money by hiring a professional. The first two small windows (22x30), I attempted by myself. The first window application was disappointing. I learned: don't apply in direct sunlight or a breeze and make sure you spray copious amounts of water/soap mixture not a mist. Having learnt that, I attempted the next window - the liner backing is EXTREMELY difficult to separate and just as I was trying to remove the liner using the backwards roll, everything came tumbling down then I spent the next frantic 15 minutes trying to separate the tint from itself as it folded and stuck together - resulting in the same poor results as the first window. Finally, it was time for the big window 40" x 50" but this time I had two helpers. We ran into the same frustrations and difficulty as the first two windows even with the extra hands. We ended up with a disaster tint application with creases, bubbles, glue smudges throughout - thank god for curtains to hide the mess. At the end of summer, I will be stripping the tint off and hiring a professional to do it. I gave it 2 stars because it does stop the heat.., Took off 3 stars because it is so difficult to apply and is not for the DIYer.
